FAQ-
I thought I’d write a blog post about one of the most FAQs I get as a First Dance teacher- how to find the perfect song for your big day. Choosing a song for your Wedding Dance may not be the easiest decision, you may have differing tastes to your partner or the song just might not be the right vibe for that moment!
I’m going to give you some tips and tricks-
Start by figuring out your vibe-
Slow/lively?
Slower paced songs are perfect for an intimate and romantic atmosphere. Imagine the dimmed lights, a moment that feels like it’s just the two of you alone. Feeling tingles? A slow song is the one for you!
TIP: have a favourite song that means a lot to you but isn’t quite right for your First Dance? See if there are any acoustic covers that help it suit the vibe you’re going for in that moment.
If you’re thinking faster paced it usually means you’re the sort of couple that’s up for a laugh and the dance-floor is like a second home to you!
Olden and golden/current?
Is there a song you keep hearing on the radio that gives you all the feels? One that keeps playing on socials that brings you joy or relates to your relationship together?
OR is there a song that played on your first date, one your favourite artist played at the festival you went to together? Or one from your younger days that brings nostalgic magic along with it?
The last thing to consider with this is if you want your guests singing along or if you’d rather it be a slightly less known one- all depends on the vibe you are hoping for!
Lyrics!
Whenever couples approach me with absolutely no ideas, I always tell them to listen out for lyrics. Put on a random playlist and see whichever attract you by lyric.
There’s a song by Ed Sheeran called Tenerife Sea which I’m desperate for a gorgeous wedding couple to use one day! He describes his love for his partner from the very start of the song and blends beautifully into the chorus with “all that you are is all that I’ll ever need…I’m so in love”. Might be cheesy for some but if you’re going for a romantic vibe, a song that isn’t overly played, this one might be the one!
Examples of songs my couples had chosen-
–Belong Together- Mark Ambor
A TikTok trending song for 2024, everyone knows the catchy chorus. This couple chose this song mainly for the lyrics, the happy energy it bought and the pace they desired due to both being beginners on the dance-floor.
–Can’t Take My Eyes Off You- Boys Town Gang
Old school, fun and so good to get your guests up and dancing with you when you fancy some company on the floor!
–Lover- Taylor Swift
The Groom chose this one, a big Taylor fan! I loved this song choice, perfect for a faster paced Waltz vibe, the lyrics are lovely and it has very obviously romantic tone.
–Sweetest Human Being Alive- George Ezra
Leaving one of the best until last here, I was obsessed with this song choice. Mr Ezra must have written this to be a First Dance song. It’s not a well-known song, not too over-played and the words are just perfect, a gorgeous background piano sound and a real tear-jerker for your loved ones- “And I know I found the sweetest human being alive” *cries*
Bless The Broken Road- Rascal Flatts
Not one I thought I knew until I heard the chorus and my oh my did it hit me! It was in Hannah Montana! This, surprisingly, wasn’t the reason my couple chose it but simply because it is an absolutely beautiful and very romantic song.
